WORLD LYMPHEDEMA DAY, 6 MARCH
250 million people worldwide live with
lymphedema. An INVISIBLE disease for many people.
Lymphedema
is not just swelling. It is a CHRONIC, PROGRESSIVE and, in many
cases, DISABLING disease that affects the physical, emotional and
social lives of those who suffer from it. LACK OF AWARENESS
often means that its true degree of disability is not recognised,
delaying diagnosis and treatment.
Today, 6 March, World
Lymphedema Day, FEDEAL / AGL reminds us that:
- Primary lymphedema deserves the same dignity and attention as any other disease.
- Research is urgent.
- Training and empathy on the part of healthcare professionals is essential.
- We need a national strategy, because lymphedema is the same in all autonomous communities.
- Early diagnosis and dignified, accessible treatment are essential.
- Because no one is immune to developing lymphedema. TOMORROW IT COULD BE YOU.
