Alrededor
del mundo hay millones de personas sufriendo de desordenes linfáticos
y no solamente debido a la filariasis. Su identificación y el
tratamiento tempranos, pueden evitar que la condición progrese y
esto puede mejorar su calidad de vida. La mayoría de linfedemas por
igual necesitan terapia especializada, la llamada “Terapia
Descongestiva Compleja ” (TCD), el único tratamiento que reduce y
mantiene de forma segura, esta enfermedad crónica y progresiva. Hay
que tener precaución con las nuevas versiones modificadas o simples
del tratamiento para Linfedma, son más económicas, pero pueden
tener efectos secundarios muy graves.
El
linfedema es una enfermedad que puede llegar a ser grave que a menudo
causa dolor e incapacidad y, puede predisponer a los pacientes a
complicaciones potencialmente mortales. Sin tratamiento, la afección
progresa a estadios de gran desfiguración conocidos como
“elefantiasis”. Debido a que el sistema linfático no está
funcionando de manera óptima, los pacientes son más susceptibles a
las infecciones como la celulitis, una infección bacteriana de la
piel potencialmente grave o incluso una sepsis irreversible.
Linfedema de larga duración sin tratamiento, tiene más riesgos de
desarrollar Linfangiosarcoma.
Toda persona que padece linfedema, cualquiera que sea su causa, necesita tratamiento especializado y prendas de compresión para estabilizar la enfermedad.
AVISO IMPORTANTE
El Linfedema es una enfermedad crónica y progresiva debido a una discapacidad orgánica. El tratamiento clínico del linfedema no es ni un tratamiento cosmético ni estético. El tratamiento del linfedema es para controlar su avance y aliviar los síntomas relacionados con la disfunción del sistema circulatorio linfático.
Para prevenir y evitar problemas graves asociados al tratamiento, como el posible desplazamiento del edema a zonas previamente no afectadas cuando se aplica la terapia de compresión para la reducción del volumen, los pacientes deben recurrir a terapeutas altamente especializados con experiencia.
La cualificación profesional y la instrucción impartida a distancia en línea no son lo mismo que la instrucción práctica en directo en la formación clínica y la certificación de los terapeutas del linfedema, similar a todos los demás programas de formación en rehabilitación, medicina y cirugía, y especialmente para desarrollar las habilidades manuales necesarias para tratar una enfermedad tan compleja como el linfedema.
Los pacientes deben igualmente tener un especial cuidado a la hora de elegir un "Centro Multidisciplinar de Referencia de Linfedema", ya que no todos los países o centros de referencia proporcionan las mismas opciones de tratamiento. La mejor elección es un centro de referencia que aplica la Terapia Descongestiva Compleja (TDC), que está reconocida como el tratamiento "Estándar de Excelencia" para el linfedema.
