SUMMARY OF ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES DEVELOPED DURING THE SECOND HALF OF 2022
The AGL Association celebrated World Lipedema Day, and among other activities, organized two online conferences, one on nutrition and another on psychology in lipedema.
The AGL Association gave a lecture at the Faculty of Health Sciences to Occupational Therapy students to raise awareness of Lymphoedema and Lipedema. UDC - University of La Coruña.
The AGL Association gave a conference at the Faculty of Physiotherapy of Pontevedra, to give visibility to the students about the daily life of people affected by Lymphoedema and Lipedema. The University of Vigo.
The AGL Association met with Luz Doporto Real, Deputy Delegate of Demographic Challenge, Equality and Social Policies of the Ourense Provincial Council, to present the assistance work that the AGL Association is carrying out for people affected by Lymphoedema, Lipedema, and Chronic Venous insufficiency.
The AGL Association had a meeting with Olga García Ballesteros, Deputy for Social Cohesion of the Provincial Council of Pontevedra, to make visible the work of AGL and the problems of people with Lymphedema. Lipedema and Chronic Venous Insufficiency.
Every November, thousands of men grow their mustaches as a reminder of prostate and testicular cancer, which in 2020 accounted for 35,000 new diagnoses in Spain alone. Lymphoedema is a condition that sometimes results from prostate or testicular cancer.
On the occasion of the annual celebration of the international movement "Movember", several barbershops in collaboration with the AGL Association, joined once again this year the initiative to give visibility to prostate and testicular cancer.

The AGL Association participated with an information table in the 2nd GALICIAN CONGRESS OF PEOPLE WITH CANCER AND THEIR FAMILIES organized by the AECC (Spanish Association Against Cancer) held in the city of Vigo. Thanks to the invitation of the AECC, we were able to learn about the work of other organizations and also show our work to all the people who came to our table. During the Congress we were able to listen to Luz Casal and Elsa Punset, and also share the reality of patients with lymphedema with Julio García Comesaña (Galician Minister of Health).
The AGL Association participated in projects organized by COCEMFE (The Spanish Confederation of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities ). For Organic Disability this year's slogan was "They say that organic disability is invisible, but no way, you only have to look, and you don't need a microscope".
The AGL Association had a meeting with Alonso Alonso Fachado (Deputy Director General of Health Care Management and Innovation of the Galician Health Service) and Josefina Monteagudo Romero (Deputy Director of Humanisation and Citizen Health Care) to ask for improvements for people with lymphoedema and lipedema in Galicia.
The AGL Association, as a member of PROPONTE, participates in different programs promoted by the Department of Social Welfare of the Pontevedra Council. The Department of Sports of the Pontevedra City Council and the Faculty of CC.EE. and Sport from the University of Vigo, joined forces to give an introductory workshop on Nordic Walking at the Faculty's facilities.
The AGL Association had a meeting with Loreto Casal Arias (Patient and Humanization Care Supervisor) and Dolores Pan Vázquez (Primary Care Manager) from the Pontevedra-Salnés Health Area. We conveyed to them the health problems of people with lymphedema and lipedema.
The AGL Association had an interview with Pilar Rodríguez Ledo (Deputy Director of Humanisation) and Gloria Enríquez Sanjurjo (Supervisor of the Humanisation Area) of the Lugo, A Mariña, and Monforte Health Area. We conveyed to them the health problems of people with lymphedema and lipedema.
The AGL Association had a meeting with the heads of the rehabilitation and primary care areas, as well as a meeting with the heads of the oncology section, of the Ourense Health Area. We conveyed to them the health problems of people with lymphedema and lipedema.
The AGL Association had a meeting with the team of Ronda Fisioterapia Clinic, who are collaborators of the AGL Asociación of Galicia.
The LGA Association has been present in the offices reserved for patient organizations in the different hospitals and, participates in the meetings of the Patient Advisory Council at the Galician level and the Patient Advisory Councils of the different Health Areas of Galicia.
The AGL Association periodically participates in projects and assemblies organized by COGAMI (Galician Confederation of People with Disabilities).

RESUMEN DE ACTIVIDADES ADICIONALES CELEBRADAS DURANTE LA SEGUNDA MITAD DEL 2022
Con motivo del Día Mundial de Lipedema, entre otras actividades, la Asociación AGL organizó dos Conferencias online sobre nutrición y psicología en el lipedema.
La Asociación AGL impartió una Conferencia en la Facultad de Fisioterapia de Pontevedra, para dar visibilidad al alumnado sobe el día a día de las personas afectadas por Linfefema y Lipedema. Universidad de Vigo.
La Asociación AGL se reunió con Luz Doporto Real, Deputada delegada adjunta del área de Desafío Demográfico, Igualdad y Políticas Sociales, Diputación de Ourense, para dar a conocer el trabajo asistencial que la asociación AGL está llevando a cabo para las personas afectadas de Linfedema, Lipedema e Insuficiencia Venosa Crónica.
La Asociación AGL tuvo una reunión con Olga García Ballesteros, Deputada de Cohesión Social de la Diputación de Pontevedra, para visibilizar el trabajo asistencial de AGL y las problemática de las personas con Linfedema. Lipedema e Insuficiencia Venosa Crónica.
Cada mes de noviembre, miles de hombres se dejan crecer el mostacho a modo de recordatorio del cáncer de próstata y testicular, que en el 2020 sumó 35.000 nuevos diagnosticados solo en España. El Linfedema es una dolencia derivada en ocasiones de los cánceres de próstata o testicular.
Con motivo de la celebración anual del movimiento internacional “Movember”, varias Barberías en colaboración con la Asociación AGL, se sumaron un año más a la iniciativa de dar visibilidad al cáncer de próstata y testicular.

La Asociación AGL participó con una mesa informativa en el II CONGRESO GALLEGO DE PERSONAS CON CÁNCER Y FAMILIARES organizado por la AECC (Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer) celebrado en la ciudad de Vigo. Gracias a la invitación de la AECC (Asociación Española Contra el Cáncer), nuestra entidad pudo conocer el trabajo de otras entidades y asimismo, mostrar nuestra labor a todas las personas que se acercaron a nuestra mesa. Durante el Congreso pudimos escuchar a Luz Casal y Elsa Punset, y asimismo trasladar nuestra realidad a Julio García Comesaña (Conselleiro de Sanidade).
La Asociación AGL participó en proyectos de COCEMFE (Confederación Española de Personas con Discapacidad Física y Orgánica). Para la Discapacidad Orgánica el eslogan de Este año fue “ Dicen que la discapacidad orgánica es invisible. Pero, qué va, solo hay que fijarse. ¡Y no hace falta un microscopio”.
La Asociación AGL tuvo una reunión con Alfonso Alonso Fachado (Subdirector general de Gestión Asistencial e Innovación del Servicio Gallego de Sanidad) I y Josefina Monteagudo Romero ( Subdirectora de Humanización y Atención a la Ciudadanía) para pedir mejoras paras las personas con linfedema y lipedema de Galicia.
La Asociación AGL, como miembro de PROPONTE, participa en distintos programas impulsados por la Concellería de Bienestar Social del Concello de Pontevedra. La Concellería de Deportes del Concello Pontevedra y la Facultad de CC.EE. y del Deporte de la Universidad de Vigo se unieron impartiendo un taller de iniciación a la Marcha Nórdica en las instalaciones de la Facultad.
La Asociación AGL tuvo una reunión con Loreto Casal Arias (Supervisora de Atención ao Paciente e Humanización) e Dolores Pan Vázquez (Responsable de Atención Primaria) del Área sanitaria de Pontevedra-Salnés. Les trasladamos los problemas sanitarios de las personas con linfefema y lipedema.
La Asociación AGL forma parte del Consello de Pacientes del Hospital Ribera Povisa. Tuvimos un encuentro donde tuvimos la oportunidad de trasladar nuestra preocupación sobre los problemas que tienen las personas con lipedema e linfedema, al personal de cirugía vascular y de rehabilitación.
La Asociación AGL tuvo una entrevista con Pilar Rodríguez Ledo (Subdirectora de Humanización) y Gloria Enríquez Sanjurjo (Supervisora da Área de Humanización) del Área Sanitaria de Lugo, A Mariña e Monforte.
La Asociación AGL tuvo una reunión con los responsables das áreas de rehabilitación y atención primaria, asimismo una reunión en oncología, del Área Sanitaria de Ourense.
AGL tuvo una reunión con el equipo de la Clínica Ronda Fisioterapia (Ourense), colaboradores de la Asociación Galega de Linfedema.
La Asociación AGL ha estado presente en los locales reservados para entidades representativas de pacientes en los distintos hospitales, y, participa en las reuniones del Consello Asesor a nivel de Galicia y los Consellos Asesores de las distintas Áreas Sanitarias de Galicia.
La Asociación AGL participa periódicamente en los proyectos y asambleas de COGAMI (La Confederación Galega de Persoas con Discapacidade).

Día Internacional de la Cobertura Sanitaria Universal 2022 - Elefantiasis linfostática - Atención Sanitaria Esencial -- Linfedema Pediátrico y Primario - Linfedema Secundario - Filariasis/Podoconiosis - Lipedema - Insuficiencia Venosa Crónica - Campaña de Sensibilización
Las organizaciones internacionales de salud y los sistemas nacionales de asistencia sanitaria deberían incluir la terapia para la disfunción linfática, lipedema e insuficiencia venosa como un tratamiento esencial y, parte de la campaña para la cobertura sanitaria universal en todo el mundo. Atención médica esencial para adultos y niños debe proporcionarse a nivel nacional y local. La falta de tratamiento o el infratratamiento de éstas patologías deriva en progresión de la enfermedad en cuanto aumento de discapacidad, desfiguración y complicaciones importantes. Los tratamientos inadecuados también fomentan y prolongan el sufrimiento del paciente a nivel físico y psicológico y, la pérdida de calidad de vida.
Con referencia al tratamiento de linfedema, independientemente de su causa o contexto, debería ser el objetivo número uno de los países de todas las regiones del mundo. Pero la realidad en estos momentos, es que millones de personas siguen infratratadas o no tienen acceso alguno a la atención sanitaria que necesitan. Otros millones se ven obligados a elegir entre la atención sanitaria y la comida, la ropa o incluso la vivienda. La elefantiasis se puede prevenir en la mayoría de los casos, si la causa subyacente que es el linfedema, se trata en sus estadios leves iniciales. En el caso de la filariasis linfática, se reconoce que en muchos casos se adquiere por primera vez en la infancia, a menudo hasta un tercio de los niños están infectados antes de los 5 años.
Los estudios científicos destacan la importancia y las implicaciones de la terapia de compresión en el control de la progresión de la disfunción linfática, lipedema e insuficiencia venosa. Los resultados clínicos de las intervenciones para controlar el linfedema muestran que es necesario adoptar medidas sencillas básicas basadas en la higiene, pero estas no bastan por sí solas para reducir el tamaño y el volumen de las extremidades. El linfedema de las extremidades y los genitales deben tratarse siempre en sus estadios iniciales, y no dejarse sin tratar hasta alcanzar la severidad del grado de la “elefantiasis”.
Juntos debemos celebrar este día, un día para impulsar la cobertura sanitaria universal de las personas que sufren enfermedades discapacitantes, como pueden ser la "Disfunción Linfática", el "Lipedema" o la "Insuficiencia Venosa Crónica". Hay que enseñar a las personas a reconocer los síntomas y saber cuándo deben acudir a un médico para que les diagnostiquen, y los sistemas nacionales de salud deben dar acceso a tratamientos correctos para estas enfermedades.

AVISO IMPORTANTE
El Linfedema es una enfermedad crónica y progresiva debido a una discapacidad orgánica. El tratamiento clínico del linfedema no es ni un tratamiento cosmético ni estético. El tratamiento del linfedema es para controlar su avance y aliviar los síntomas relacionados con la disfunción del sistema circulatorio linfático. Para prevenir y evitar problemas graves asociados al tratamiento, como el posible desplazamiento del edema a zonas previamente no afectadas cuando se aplica la terapia de compresión para la reducción del volumen, los pacientes deben recurrir a terapeutas altamente especializados con experiencia.
La cualificación profesional y la instrucción impartida a distancia en línea no son lo mismo que la instrucción práctica en directo en la formación clínica y la certificación de los terapeutas del linfedema, similar a todos los demás programas de formación en rehabilitación, medicina y cirugía, y especialmente para desarrollar las habilidades manuales necesarias para tratar una enfermedad tan compleja como el linfedema.
Los pacientes deben igualmente tener un especial cuidado a la hora de elegir un "Centro Multidisciplinar de Referencia de Linfedema", ya que no todos los países o centros de referencia proporcionan las mismas opciones de tratamiento. La mejor elección es un centro de referencia que aplica la Terapia Descongestiva Compleja (TDC), que está reconocida como el tratamiento "Estándar de Excelencia" para el linfedema.
